Documentary screening of “Story Pole: Indigenous Veterans and the Tallest Pole in the World” explores the heritage of the famous pole that stands in Beacon Hill Park and its connection to Indigenous veterans. Produced by Geoff Bird , Professor of Royal Roads University under the guidance of Indigenous Elders from various Nations. Geoff will be joined by members of the Underwood family of the Tsawout Nation.
Geoff is the Project lead of the War Heritage Research Initiative that has involved the production of over 30 short documentaries including Abkhazi Garden: Sanctuary from War and various commemorative projects. In 2024 he showed his film “Ways We Remember War: The Second Battle of Ypres and Canada’s Memory” in our Oak Bay Heritage lecture series.
